About this experience

This ATS Academy course will help develop the basic skills needed to effectively and safely carry a concealed weapon for use during a self-defense encounter.  The class is available as a digital range training session or a live fire session.  Pistols are available for rental for the live fire training sessions.  The rental cost is for up to 4 people attending the class.  The following skills will be taught: 



  • Situational awareness

  • Safety

  • Wardrobe considerations for concealment of a pistol

  • Different types of conceal holsters

    • Inside the waistband (IWB)

    • Appendix

    • Pocket carry



  • Clearing clothing during a draw from holster

  • Stages of drawing a pistol

    • Release retention/upwards move to clear holster

    • Pivot pistol towards target

    • Mate with support hand

    • Firearm presentation to target



  • Pocket carry requires slightly different techniques

    • Hand placement on pistol

    • Holster catch on pocket edge

    • Clearing holster without engaging trigger and presenting firearm to target

      • Quality holster will allow weapon to clear trigger from pocket holstre being disengaged from firearm

      • Pivot pistol towards target

      • Mate with support hand

      • Firearm presentation to target
